Lawrence D. Mass, M.D. is a co-founder of Gay Men's Health Crisis and was the first writer to write about AIDS in the press. He is the author/editor of four books: Homosexuality and Sexuality: Dialogues of The Sexual Revolution, Volume 1; Homosexuality as Behavior and Identity: Dialogues of the Sexual Revolution, Volume 2; Confessions of a Jewish Wagnerite: Being Gay and Jewish in America; and We Must Love One Another or Die: The Life and Legacies of Larry Kramer. Mass's writing on bears and health has been featured in anthologies, including Bears on Bears by Ron Suresha and The Bear Book II by Les Wright. Mass is a unit director of addiction treatment services at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. Mass and his partner, gay activist and writer Arnie Kantrowitz, are featured in the documentary film Gay Sex in the 70's.

He resides in Buffalo, N.Y., and is a staff trainer for an agency that serves people with special needs. He is President of the Buffalo Bears.
