About BEAR CAFÉ New York, Inc.

"When I moved to NYC I didn't know anyone. I found The Center and got their calendar... That's where I found BEAR CAFE. I've always thought the best way to make friends and meet people was to jump right in. I started by volunteering at the door greeting people. That was the best way to check out everyone who came in and learn names. Now I know my way around New York - and all the great men of Bear Cafe. Thanks, everyone for your friendliness and kindness. You're a great bunch. Woof!"
-- John C.

Statement of Vision: BEAR CAFÉ New York, Inc. (BC) is a place where all Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Men and our Friends are welcomed – to meet, socialize, play games, entertain and learn from each other in a comfortable, alcohol-free atmosphere.

Here, many of us wish to explore what it means to be a Gay, Bisexual or Transgendered Man within our society – specifically the outer physicality, including, but not limited to, looks, size, build, weight, hairiness and muscles (or lack thereof); and the inner attributes including, but not limited to, camaraderie, sexuality and spirit.

BC was originally founded to support and provide events for Bears, Cubs, Chubs and their Admirers, all who still remain important constituency groups within BC. Today, though, our "Welcome!" to all folks is made more explicit.

In addition, BC is a showcase for all homo-masculine culture: Music, Song, Art, Photography, Film, Video, Writing and Theater, and those creating it.

HOW IS BEAR CAFÉ New York, Inc. OPERATED?

BC is a participatory membership organization that relies on all our members and regular attendees to give (at least) 2 hours of their time a year – insuring that our events are successful and fun events for all participants. Helping out at BC is one way to meet, talk to, and make friends more easily.

BC has a working Board of Directors and Deputy Directors. These folks, however, do not replace the need for all BC members and attendees to donate some degree of their time and talents, which will lead to a larger, more diverse attendance and membership by men.
